A new version of the BR ZKA Limpet engineering wagon announced for 2010.

This is a very good model of the Limpet open wagon, with the distinctive cut-out top panels in the centre of the wagon sides. These were general material carriers, the cut-outs ensured that the wagon was not overloaded when filled with ballast, while the higher sides allowed increase capacity for lighter loads.

The BR engineers' Grampus is being produced for the first time as a ready-to-run model. This model is painted in the engineers olive green livery and lettered for return to the BR concrete works at Taunton. Many concrete components were manufactured at Taunton including fence posts, station platform components and edging slabs.

Many of the BR-build blue spot fish vans were redeployed as fish traffic declined. In addition to assignment to the general parcels pool a number were taken over for engineers service.

Thic model replicates a van used as a breakdown van at Frodingham. Carrying a range of tools and packing this van would have been sent to minor derailments, for example of wagons, in the extensive network of tracks around this steel making centre.

Bachmann OO BR(S) 25 Ton Brake Van Departmental Olive Green (38-404)

New model announced 2011

Sometimes known as Pill Box vans these guards brake vans were designed for the Southern Railway in the 1930s, showing the steady development from the short wheelbase brake vans of earlier years towards the familiar BR standard design of the 1950s. The longer wheelbase (distance between the axles) provided a better ride for the guard, also allowing an increase in the weight and therefore effectiveness of the hand brake. Side lookout duckets allowed the guard to keep an eye on the running of the train and to watch for signals which may need him to apply the brake to help bring the train to a halt.

This model is painted in the British Railways engineering department olive green livery.
