Dapol N BR 9741 57xx/8750 Class 0-6-0 Pannier Tank Green Lettered British Railways 2S-007-004

A new model of the Great Western 57xx class pannier tank locomotives incorporating the ability to recreate detail differences between the members of this large class. The different cab roof and rivetted or welded tank construction can be reproduced, while the chassis incorporates a 6-pin DCC decoder socket. Dapol magnetic couplers and standard N gauge couplers are supplied along with a bag of spares and fine details for futher optional detailing.

The side mounted pannier tank design engines were a distinctive feature of the GWR, offering the ability to utilise the efficient belpaire firebox while retaining access to the cylinders, rods and valve gear between the frames without a significant loss of water capacity. Developed from the older designs of saddle tank, many of which had been adapted with pannier tanks to accomodate new belpaire boilers, a small number of GWR 57xx class locomotives sold to London Transport were the last steam locomotives to work 'in service' on the national railway network.

This model depicts a more unusual livery which was applied to many locomotives built or repainted in 1948/49, before British Railways had settled on locomotive liveries. 9741 is painted in GWR green with British Railways spelt out on the tanks.

Dapol N GWR 3803 28xx/2884 Class 2-8-0 Heavy Freight Engine Green Lettered GWR 2S-009-004

A detailed model of GWR 3803, one of the Collett side window cab 28xx class 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotives and now preserved and in working order. The model is painted in the later & post-WW2 livery of plain green, lettered GWR.

The model is driven by Dapols' tender-mounted motor with shaft drive to the locomotive. This arrangement allows a good size motor to be used without compromise in the model and still provides power through the locomotive driving wheels. As can be seen in the photographs this has permitted the visual clearance between the frames and boiler to be replicated. A defining feature of the 28 together with it's long, low boilered look accentuated by the boiler taper, which are nicely captured by this model.

DCC Ready. 6 pin decoder required for DCC operation.

Dapol N Gauge 2S-012-007 GWR 5 Portishead Terrier 0-6-0T GWR Green Shirtbutton Logo

The GWR received two of the ex-LB&SCR 'Terrier' 0-6-0 tank engines from the Weston Clevedon & Portishead Railway when the independant line closed in 1940, the GWR being one of the major creditors. The more powerful, Portishead, received an extensive overhaul and was used for a number of light shunting roles around Bristol and in the West Country until withdrawn in 1954.
The terriers proved very useful as shed pilot engines at Bristol St Philips Marsh shed as they would fit on the turntable alogn with another tank engine. One of the two was also loaned out to Frys at Keynsham, being small enough to traverse the sharp curves in the chocolate factory and the engines shunted at the temporary army camps created to accomodate American troops prior to the 'D-Day' invasion of Europe.

Dapol N GWR 6802 Bampton Grange 68xx Grange Class 4-6-0 Locomotive GWR Post WW2 Green 2S-019-002
Following on from the Ixion GWR Manor class 4-6-0 Dapol have announced their intent to produce a model of the similar larger boilered and heavier 68xx Grange class locomotives.

While highly successful as a class the GWR rebuilt some of the Churchward 43xx 2-6-0 mogul type locomotives into 4-6-0 types. The change to a two-axle, four wheel leading truck provided better riding at the higher speeds which were being introduced for secondary passenger and fast goods trains during the 1930s.
The first class produced from these rebuilds was the 68xx Grange, similar in size to the 49xx Hall class locomotives the Garnges featured slightly smaller driving wheels, resulting in a distinctive raised footplate section over the cylinders and 80 locomotives were completed between 1936 and 1939.

This model recreates 6802 Bampton Grange painted in the post WW2 GWR livery G (crest) W lettering.

Graham Farish N GWR 6406 64xx Class Auto-Pannier 0-6-0PT Green 371-985

New model, delivery expected 2016

The GWRs' 64xx class of pannier tank locomotives was designed specifically to provide a locomotive for push-pull 'auto train' working which delivered more power than the 0-4-2 tank engines. The engines met the operating departments requirements for up to four trailer coaches to be hauled during peak hours and for introducing the more economical auto-train working over routes with stiffer gradients than the 4-coupled engines could manage.

The addition of this locomotive to the Bachmann range nicely complements the 57xx/8750 class shunting engines to further increase the variety of GWR branchline motive power. Bachmann are also producing a model of one of the later design of auto trailer coaches to complement these engines.

This model of 6406 is painted in the GWR plain green livery. Era 3, 1923-1948
