Dapol N BR 5574 Sloped Tank 4575 Class 2-6-2T Black (ND048g)

Following on from the highly successful early or flat-top version of the GWR 45xx Dapol are producing the later sloped-top 4575 class. Dapol have established a solid reputation for excellent detailing in this small scale, plus the 45xx mechanism has proven smooth, slow running ability and prototypical train hauling capacity.

The Collett 4575 class were almost identical to the highly successful Churchward 45xx design. C.B.Collett inproved the versatility of the design by fitting taller side tanks offering greater water capacity. In order to maintain visibility for the crew the front ends of the taller tanks were sloped downwards, a design feature shared with the 56xx class. The additional water capacity of these locomotives was greatly appreciated on some of the longer routes operated by these engines, but didn't cure the Great Western enginemen of their desire to top up at every water tank they passed!
