Dapol 2S-021-001 N Gauge BR ex-SR Class Q1 0-6-0 Goods Engine 33016 Black Early Emblem
The iconic Q1 class 0-6-0 was designed under wartime restrictions to provide the Southern Railway with a modern robust, reliable and ecconomical goods engine at a time when locomotives were urgently needed for military traffic. Innovative locomotive engineer OVS Bulleid produced an unconventional design which minimised materials usage by removing non-essential parts and made extensive use of fabricated components to reduce building time and cost.
Dapol have fitted the motor into the tender on their model using a drive shaft to power the locomotive wheels. This has allowed the locomotive to accomodate more weight and maintains the clearance between the boiler and frames. Maximum effort has been put into detailing this essentially quite plain looking locomotive, the models feature separately fitted handrails, white headcode discs, fine rivet detailing, a removable tender coal load and see-through Boxpok pattern wheels with blackened pickup wipers.
Finally, DCC fitting has been made easy with a 6-pin NEM651 socket.
