Dapol N First Great Western Class 153 Single Car Diesel Unit Train (ND114J)

The First Great Western Regional Fleet livery features the wave or swoosh pattern lining formed using the names of prominent towns, landmarks and tourist destinations throughout the West of England. The 153 trains serve many of the scenic main and branch lines in Devon and Cornwall, destinations made famous by the GWR. The single-car 153 trains provide an ecconomical transport all-year-round, with the bonus of quickly forming longer trains at busier times. This versatility can take a 153 anywhere on the FGW network, with single units having been used regularly on services from Gloucester to Swindon, Worcester, Great Malvern and Bristol. From Bristol the units run to sunny Severn Beach and usually as a twin set to Cardiff, Portsmouth, Weymouth and Taunton.

Truly one of the most useful trains for followers and modellers of todays' Great Western.

A model of the first of the second generation diesel unit trains. Intended for suburban duties the class 150 was fitted with two pairs of sliding doors, allowing rapid movement of passengers.

First Great Western have taken a number of these early class 150 units on lease, refurbishing them to strengthen the local lines fleet. This model of unit 105128 is painted in the FGW purple blue scheme with pink doors as applied to these units. Steadily growing business on the Great Western is likely to see these units remain in service until the electrification project is complete and new trains are introduced. Several 150 sets have already bee extended to 3 cars wiht an intermediate car from a 150/2 set.

Due for release late this November Dapol are now producing the class 153 single-car Sprinter train. New printing machinery has allowed even the most intricate liveries to be reproduced in miniature from the same source files as are used for printing the vinyls used on the real trains!

This Dapol model features a low friction under window drive mechanism, as developed for the 156 Sprinter unit, incorporating the Dapol super creep motor and a 40:1 gear ratio for superb smooth running at low speeds. A DCC 6 pin socket will be fitted along with directional lighting and see through windows.

Dapol N Arriva Trains Class 153 Single Car Diesel Unit Motorised (ND114f)

The 153 units are the usual trains on many of the scenic but lightly-used cross-country branchlines in Wales. Many of these services are essential, providing public transport connections to many towns and tourist destinations in remote parts of the principality. Units can easily be coupled together, or coupled to other 'sprinter' types to form longer trains wehn required, making the 153 a particularly flexible and useful part of the Arriva roster.

This Dapol model features a low friction under window drive mechanism, as developed for the 156 Sprinter unit, incorporating the Dapol super creep motor and a 40:1 gear ratio for superb smooth running at low speeds. A DCC 6 pin socket will be fitted along with directional lighting and see through windows.

This model will carry the Arriva Trains aqua blue livery. Arriva operate several franchises, including many scenic routes in Wales where the 153 provides passenger train services linking remote communities.

Dapol have announced that they will be producing the class 153 single car diesel unit train in N gauge, with the production of CAD drawings already at an advanced stage.
A useful diesel unit train introduced in the early 1990s the 153 unit can run alone on lightly used branchlines, or be combined with many of the Sprinter generation units to boost train capacity quickly and easily on busy commuter routes. Certainly a welcome addition to the range for operators of small N gauge layouts!

This unpowered or dummy unit can be coupled to a powered car to create a longer train.

This model will carry the original BR Regional Railways livery, seen from the early 1990s until the final units were repainted about 2000.
