Graham Farish N BR Mk1 4-Wheel CCT Carriage Truck / Parcels Van BR Blue Weathered 374-640

Graham Farish N 374-640 BR MK 1 CCT BR Blue Weathered

New model announced 2015

The Covered Carriage Truck (CCT) is a wagon type dating back to the early days of railways when the gentry would take their horses and carriage with them by train. The designation was perpetuated to describe a long 4-wheel van with end doors and suitable for travel at passenger train speeds. These very flexible, the end doors permitted large items and road vehicles to be loaded with ease, while side doors allowed the vans to be used in general express parcels service.
British Railways built a sizable fleet of these 4-wheel CCT vans in the 1950s to replace the eclectic range of vehicles of pre-nationalisation and often pre-grouping origin with a standard design. BR CCTs could be found on many parcels services until the mid 1980s, when the 4-wheel vans were high on the hit-list for withdraw as BRs share of the mail and parcels business began to decline.

This model is painted in the BR corporate blue livery of the 1970s and 80s.

Graham Farish N BR ex-LMS 50ft Inspection Saloon BR Blue & Grey 374-877

Graham Farish N Gauge 374-877 BR 50ft Inspection Saloon Blue & Grey

A highly detailed model of the LMS design of engineers inspection saloon car, a type which has had a long life with the national railway network and many now available for hire on heritage railways.
Inspection saloons were used by the divisional civil and signal engineers to make site visits before major engineering projects and to inspect track and structures where local staff had reported developing faults. The two slaoons were equiped with end windows for track and signal viewing and large tables allowing drawings and plans to be laid out for discussion. Between the saloons a small kitchen was provided, from which the steward could supply refreshments and even conjure up a full meal if required.

This model carries the British Rail corporate blue & grey livery with yellow ends. Yellow ends were usually applied so the inspection saloon could be propelled to or during a site visit.

The interiors may be unchanged, stripped out or replaced with weights to provide a known load, a newly overhauled locomotives' performance could be checked with a series of controlled test runs before the loco was returned to service. An excellent excuse for an unusual locomotive to turn up 'on test'!
