Graham Farish N BR Mk.1 RMB Miniature Buffet Car Maroon (374-107)

The miniature buffet car had a small buffet counter taking up 2 or 3 seating bays in the central portion of the coach. The buffet could supply hot drinks, soft drinks, snaks and pre-packed food items. The cars were used on many secondary services, where passenger demand did not justify the provision of a dedicated restaurant car.

This model is painted in the maroon livery of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Dapol N BR Gresley Design Second Class Coach 12614 Crimson & Cream (NC-060D)

Dapols' Gresley coaches now available in the early BR crimson and cream livery.

These vans were designed to match the new Mk.1 passenger coaches and were painted in the matching livery as horse boxes were often attached to passenger trains. The Southern favoured painmting their coaching stock in green livery, matching the EMU trains, so the horse boxes were painted green as well. The horse boxes would travel widely however, so a green vehicle might be seen alongside the maroon ones at a race meet anywhere in the country.

A new detailed model of the BR design Covered Carriage Truck (CCT) painted in the maroon livery used from 1957 until the late 1960s.

These were a small 4-wheeled version of the general utility van, equiped with large end doors allowing easy loading of bulky consignments, while the smaller size of van was useful for regular parcels deliveries to and from locations where the volume would not require a larger van.

The Royal Mail have made use of the railways for the carriage of mails since the creation of the network in the 1840s/50s. Sorting of mail on the move speeded up deliveries over long distances, allowing for the next day first class service to be maintained.

This model is of the BR Mk.1 TPO van, built to the new standard BR coach design in the 1950s painted in the original maroon livery, as used by BR passenger coaches from 1956 until the end of the 1960s. This coach also has the original larger vent windows, later reduced in size for security reasons and interior lighting.

These cars were designated SLSTP, an operating abreviation fo SLeeper Second class Twin berth with Pantry (a small compartment for the car attendant with facilities to supply a small range of refreshments, eg. tea and coffee, to the passengers. These were the usual type of sleeping car provided for passengers booking second class tickets, with two passengers normally accomodated in twin-berth compartments.
