These tank wagons were used for all bulk liquids, although most commonly associated with oil products. ICI operated a small fleet of tank wagons for conveying chemical products.

A bright red painted open coal wagon lettered for Crane & company, firework manufacturers of Bristol.

All may not be as it seems however, for while the idea of a wagon load of fireworks might be interesting a metal box van might be far more appropriate! The fireworks business was operated by one member of the Crane family, another relation, believed to be a brother, operated a busy coal business based in Gloucester, and with another member of the Crane family in the coal business nearby it seems far more likely that the firework wagon was kept busy as part of the 'family' fleet.

Dapol N Emlyn Anthracite 20-Ton Open Coal Wagon (NB-104)

The steel bodied 20-ton coal wagon was promoted by the GWR during the 1930s with the offer of lower rates per ton for coal moved in high capacity wagons.

This model is of one of these 20-ton wagons in service with Emlyn Anthracite.

A detailed model of a 7-plank open coal wagon in the livery of the Ammanford Colliery company. The colliery produced high quality clean burning anthracite coals.

One of the last working pits in Wales Ammanford Colliery was the last pre-mechanised mine, still using the long wall method of hand mining. Ammanford and nearby Graig Merthyr were also the last deep mines to use rope-hauled trams to bring coal to the surface.
The Ammanford Colliery Company was formed in the 1890s, a syndicate of Lancashire coal owners. The company was absorbed into the United Anthracite conglomerate in 1924.

This model is of a wagon built for the Blue Circle Cement group to the design of a gunpowder van of all steel construction.
Many of these private-owner cement carrying box vans remainied in service into the British Railways era.

Peco N White & Beeny 7 Plank Open Coal Wagon (NR-P103)

White & Beeny Ltd was a long-established firm of coal merchants in Hailsham, near Eastbourne who obtained their coal mostly from the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire collieries. Therefore these wagons would have been regularly spotted on the long journey between the Midlands and the south coast town. This model is of one of their 7 plank coal wagons, based on the prototype that was originally built for the GWR in 1921 and was subsequently bought second-hand (for cash!) by White & Beeny, of which 10 were purchased.

The model is produced in the black livery of the company, with white lettering, shaded green. The fine printing declares that the empty wagon should be sent to Markham No2 Colliery and that the load is 12 tons.
