The US army was highly influenced by French uniforms prior to the Civil War to the extent of purchasing uniforms from France. The Zouave uniform was copied from French North African Colonial soldiers. Due to the bravery of the original Zouaves many US units chose to clothe themselves in similar fashion. The unforms were however not replaced when worn out or depleted by attrition. This set can be used to portray French Zouave units all the way up to WWI. | |
