This new Dapol model of the GWR 57xx class features a diecast metal chassis and running plate for excellent adhesion and a smooth running 5-pole motor geared for fine speed control when shunting. A large number of detail parts have been designed to allow body and cab variations to be replicated, including those engines modified for London Transports' Metropolitan line gauge. Between the frames is a partial representation of working inside motion while the fully detailed cab interior is found below a roof secured by small magnets, making easy access for fitting a crew and working cab doors are fitted where appropriate. Below the footplate the visible sides of the ashpan have been modelled, along with correct style of brake rods.

You can't get a lot farther from the GWR than Scotland, but that is where 57xx class leader 5700 was built! A product of the North British Locomotive Company the GWRs new pannier design was completed accepted on December 29th 1928, travelling south to be one of a batch of Glasgow engines allocated to sheds on the 17th of February.
5700 was sent to banbury, from where she may well have worked trains to Cheltenham via the Cotswold towns of Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water. Moving to Leamington Spa in December 1934 number 5700 became a Tyesley engine from December 1937. Tyseley was a busy shed supplying engines for yards and trip working throughout the Birmingham and Black Country area. A final transfer came in September 1951 to the former Cambrian shed of Oswestry, from where the engine would have worked around Dapol's home town of Chirk, until withdrawn from service in March 1956.
