Corgi 1/50 CC25909 Routemaster, RM 8 London Transport(First in Operation)
Release delayed until 2015
Route 8 was first introduced in November 1908 and up until June 2004 the route was operated by the iconic London bus, the Routemaster. The AEC Routemaster was designed and built in London by AEC and Park Royal Vehicles specifically for London Transport use. Although conventional in appearance, the design was technically sophisticated, featuring innovative construction techniques, braking systems and semi-automatic transmission. The first prototype was produced in 1954, and RM8 was the first pre-production vehicle built in 1958 and exhibited at that year’s Commercial Motor Show.
RM8 eventually entered public service in March 1976, having spent the intervening years as a London Transport test vehicle. In all, 2760 of several variants of Routemaster were built for London Transport, and many of these iconic vehicles, including RM8, are preserved.
