L53 undertook 19 reconnaissance missions including 4 attacks on England and dropping a total of 11,930 kg of bombs. On her last mission she was Intercepted and destroyed by British Sopwith Camel N6812 flown by Lt Culley RAF, who took off from a lighter towed by the R-class destroyer HMS Redoubt, on August 11 1918. The regular captain of this Type V airship was Eduard Proells and he and all his crew were killed when the airship was shot down. This was the last airship to be shot down and it was the last airship raid over Britain. A report by Rear Admiral Tyrwhitt based on Lt Culley's report states that the top of this airship was white but the colour of the fabric used at this time had a blue fleck woven into the fabric. The 2018 Navis Neptun production has a light blue-grey upper panel on the model and this is probably the best compromise to representing the fabric in 1/1250 scale.
