The G38 was the largest landplane of its time. On 6th November 1929 the Junkers chief pilot Zimmermann took it on its maiden flight and was surprised by its outstanding flying characteristics. From the summer of 1931 the G38 flew with 30 passengers on the Berlin-Hannover-Amsterdam-London route. As a special attraction, the glazed leading edge of the wing was equipped with 6 seats. The success of this luxuriously appointed "giant aircraft" soon impelled Lufthansa to build a second one. The number of passengers was increased to 32. The G38 quickly became the popular and attractive flagship of the Deutsche Lufthansa AG and its worth was well proved in use. The G38 D-APIS remained in long-haul service with Lufthansa until the start of World War II. The G38 was a peak achievement of German aircraft design in its time and an important development for long-haul transport.

The CL 601 has been in service with the German Federal Ministry of Defence VIP-Unit since 1986. It is primarily used by politicans and cabinet members on official duty. There has been some recent criticism over its use following allegedly private flights. The aircraft is also used for transport duties, courier flights and ambulance sorties.

The Airbus A380 is currently both the largest and the most up-to-date passenger aircraft in the world and also the first commercial airliner to have two full-length passenger decks. The A380 family essentially consists of a basic aircraft with a capacity of 555 passengers in three classes (max. 840) and a maximum range of 14,800 km. The model is painted in the livery worn for this year's successful maiden flight and the Le Bourget airshow.

On 1st April 2005, the anniversary of the resumption of flying operations 50 years ago, Lufthansa presented an Airbus A321-100 to the public in a special livery. This Airbus wears the traditional colours of the fifties and will fly in these colours for a few years. The Airbus A321-100 is a stretch variant of the short-to-medium range Airbus A320, but with a higher seating capacity, greater cargo volume and lower operating costs per passenger. The first aircraft of this type was delivered to Lufthansa on 27th January 1994. The aircraft has room for 182 passengers and a range of 4,200 km. Equipped with two International Aero Engines V2530-A5 type engines, it reaches a cruising speed of 840 km/h.

With the legendary Super Constellation the era of piston-engined aircraft both reached its peak and came to an end. In 1950, in order to keep up with growing numbers of passengers, Lockheed extended the fuselage of the L-749. TWA was one of their first customers. The most successful version was the L.1049G with total sales of 99. On 19.4.1955, the first "Super Connie" was delivered to Lufthansa. It could carry 77 passengers and had a cruising speed of 450 km/h.

The Dassault Rafale is the best combat plane in the world that can engage in simultaneous ground attack and air defence actions. It reaches a speed of Mach 2. The first production plane of the Rafale M went into service with the French navy in 1999.

The Russian Ka-50 is primarily designed for close-support, but also for air combat applications. Conceived as a unique single-seat combat helicopter, it is equipped with a coaxial contra-rotating double rotor and is heavily armoured.

The AH-64D Longbow Apache is currently the most advanced, the most versatile and the most powerfully armed combat helicopter in the world. This upgraded version of the Apache was used extremely effectively by the US Army in the Gulf Wars of 1991 and 2003. The long-range radar can be used for its own protection, but it is also capable of accurately acquiring up to 1000 potential targets and identifying 128 opponents as well as automatically determining the priorities for up to 16 Hellfire missiles in attack mode.

The Tomcat has long been one of the legendary combat aircraft of the US Navy and is one of the latest carrier-borne weapons platforms. Production of the F-14D began in March 1990 and included upgraded electronics, a new on-board radar system and modifications to the avionics. This most powerful version of the F-14 is capable of carrying extensive external loads, such as the AIM-54 Phoenix and AIM-120 AMRAAM. Top speed Mach 2.34.
