The Ilyushin 86 "Camber", which went into development at the beginning of the 1970s, is the first and most important wide-bodied civil aircraft to be produced in Russia. It is powered by four Kuznetzov engines. The flight deck is designed to accommodate 3-5 crew members and it carries up to 18 cabin staff. A special feature of the IL-86 is the three sets of built-in stairs giving the passengers access to the cabin via the lower deck. The aircraft has a body width of 5.71 m. The development of the IL-86 is presumed to have started in the nineteen seventies. Since 1974 two prototypes were made, with the maiden flight taking place in 1976 and the completion of the test programme in 1978. In 1979 the first deliveries were made to Aeroflot, for which it was the very first wide-bodied airliner. The IL86 is still flying in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China and Armenia
