Over the last few years, the C-17 Globemaster has become the most important functional USAF transport aircraft. The C-17 is indispensable as a supply plane and for transporting the wounded from crisis areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The prototype flew for the first time on 15.9.1991. The capabilities of the C-17 in relation to long-haul flights and short take-offs and landings on temporary airfields made it an ideal means of transport for military, humanitarian and peace missions. The RAF has also used this efficient transporter for some years. Qatar Airways uses the C-17 for long-range bulk transport purposes.
