The F-6 Hellcat was one of the most successful fighters used in the Pacific theatre of war. Over 75% of the enemy aircraft shot down in combat were attributed to them. The F6F-5 was an improved version of the F-3 which had stronger armour- plating and different armament and bomb racks. They came into service in mid 1944 and were also used on British aircraft carriers.
