The 1949 F-84F Thunderstreak was a development of the F-84E Thunderjet, equipped with a more powerful engine and backswept wings. After many initial difficulties the F-84F mutated into a completely new aircraft, until in 1954 there were 450 in completion. Of the F-84Fs built under the MDAP (Mutual Defence Assistance Programme), ultimately almost half went to a variety of NATO air forces including to the newly formed Federal German Air Force. On 24th September 1956 the first flying unit to put three F-84F Thunderstreaks into operation was the air force weapons training school 30 at F rstenfeldbruck near Munich. In total the Federal German armed forces received 450 machines, the last of which left JaboG 34 fighter-bomber squadron in December 1966. During its career the F-84F proved to be a very versatile aircraft, but it had its problems (high landing speed and long take-off distance). The F-84F was also the standard aircraft of that time in Belgium and the Netherlands.
