Revell 1/48 B-25J Mitchell Medium Bomber Kit JAF (04520)
B-25J Mitchell - Russell's Raiders - serial number 45-8811 - is the pride and joy of Jet Alpine Fighter, a Switzerland-based association dedicated to the preservation and operation of historical military airplanes, commonly called "warbirds". Jet Alpine Fighter is located in the upper Rhone valley, in the middle of the Swiss Alps, very close to the worldwide famous Matterhorn. The plane was named "Russell's Raiders" by the JAF boys as a tribute to famous and forever sexy actress Jane Russel. The artwork (Nose Art) appearing on the pilot's side is based on her portrait done in 1943 by Alberto Vargas, whose work has been widely reproduced on many World War II bombers. The B-25 is a medium bomber with two engines and a twin tail, the prototype having flown in january 1939. The B-25B became famous on april 18, 1942 during the Doolittle-Raid, the bombing raid on Tokyo. Later versions were operated by RAF bomber squadrons in Europe and Africa, and also by the USAAF in the Pacific theatre with four extra machine guns alongside the fuselage. The B-25J Mitchell III was the last series and with 4.318 planes built, also the most constructed Mitchell. In Europe and Africa the B-25J Mitchell mostly flew as a bomber against targets in the Balkan and Italy. Three machines have been preserved in Europe, one of these being the B-25J from the Jet Alpine Fighter.
