The Piper Super Cub is being built since 1949 and is without any doubt the company's best known aircraft. The two-seater has been delivered with different engine configurations, initially as the "PA-18-95 Cub" with a Continental C-90 while later versions had the Lycoming engine offering 105-150 hp. Models with more than 125 hp had landing flaps and enlarged tail surfaces. The huge succes of the PA-18 can be explained by its versatility. This two-seater is ideal for short distances and has multiple uses with the military (i.e. as an economical airplane for pilot training), in a version with floats for take off and landing on water surfaces, or even as a tow plane to take gliders to higher altitudes. With more than 40.000 aircraft sold, the Piper is the most popular aircraft built in its kind.
