The first EC-135s used by the military were delivered on 13th September 2000 to German army flying unit weapons training school in B ckeburg. There they were used for transport and training and liaison flights. Before that the EC-135 had been successfully introduced by the Deutsche Rettungsflugwacht e.V. (German air rescu service), the ADAC and their Austrian counterparts the AMTC, which brought the were looking for a new and larger liaison helicopter. After an intensive test phase the first 15 helicopters were ordered.
