Revell 1/32 Russian MIG 29 Fulcrum Air Superiority Fighter (04707)

The existence of the MiG 29 was first noticed by the Western intelligence services when it made its maiden flight in October 1977 at Ramenskoje, the test centre in the USSR. The first models of this new air superiority fighter went into service with Russian units in October 1983. Over 1200 of this type were built between 1983 and 1995 and delivered to a wide range of air forces in the eastern bloc and the western world, including Poland, Hungary Yugoslavia, Romania, North Korea, Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia and the German Democratic Republic. When Germany was reunified in 1990, parts of the East German air force were taken over by the Federal German air force, including the MiG 29 Fulcrum fighter-interceptor that went into service in May 1988 with "Vladimir Komarov" 3 fighter squadron in Preschen on the Polish border. As the MiG 29 was the very latest that the Russian aircraft industry had to offer, it was first of all decided to test it in flight trials to see if it was for use by the German air force. The MiG 29 proved to be superior to the American F-16 and F-15 in almost all respects. After long discussions, the Federal German government decided to set up an operational unit with the available MiG 29s. Thus the 29 test unit became the 2nd squadron of 73 "General Steinhoff" fighter wing in Laage.
