Revell 1/32 Heinkel He162 Salamander (04723)
After receiving the design specifications in December 1944, the prototype of the He-162
flew for a mere 38 days.
Following a succession of quick rolls, the machine veered off to the right and crashed to
the ground, plummeting the test pilot to his death. Despite this tragedy, Henkel decided to
continue with the programme. Recognising that development had been too hasty, the weak
points were soon identified and in the following January the first improved He-162s were
delivered for trials with the troops. By May 1945, 116 aircraft had been built, 50 of which
were deployed by the fighter squadrons in Leck.
