The SE.210 Caravelle, which was introduced as an airliner in May 1959, was the first short- to medium-range jet plane in the world. Equipped with 2 RR Avon Mk. 527 engines, it had a range of 1670 km and could carry 80 passengers. Numerous European and American airlines put the Caravelle into service and it is still flying today as a freight carrier.
