Italeri 1/72 USAF B26K Counter Invader Medium Bomber Kit (1249)

Considered to be the best medium bomber developed by the USA during the Second World War, the A-26 Invader flew for the first time in July 1942, immediately demonstrating, thanks also to its two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engines, excellent maneuverability and outstanding performance. Its introduction into active service was quite slow, and it wasn’t until Autumn 1944 that the A-26 saw action in Europe, flying over 11,000 sorties before the end of the conflict. Its employment in the Pacific theatre was, instead, relatively limited. In the Korean War the Invader took on the role of standard USAF medium bomber and was also a protagonist in French operations in Indochina. The B-26 was back in the front line in the Vietnam War, with modifications being made to adapt it to anti-guerilla operations: the result was the B-26K (later the A-26A), employed successfully until 1969, a quarter of a century after its baptism of fire.
