Over 500 Saab Drakens have been delivered to the Swedish Air Force for interceptor and strike duties. The Danish Air Force also adopted the aircraft for use in the fighter-bomber and reconnaissance roles.The Draken prototype flew in 1955 and the first versions were in service in 1960; since then continuous development has increased performance and armament. The "double delta" wing was chosen to combine the Mach 2 top speed with the ability to land and take-off from the stretches of road used in Sweden as emergency airfields. The 35F Draken is armed with Falcon missiles and two 30mm cannon and powered by a Swedish-built-Rolls-Royce Avon. Wing span 30ft 10in.
