Airfix 1/144 Boeing 747 Civil Airliner Model (08174)
The giant Boeing 747 was the biggest airliner in the world.

The 350-ton jet can carry up to 490 passengers, but British Airways has seating for about 360 passengers in five spacious cabins. The jet also features an upstairs cabin behind the raised flight deck, reached by a circular staircase. The passenger cabins have ten abreast seating with two aisles, eleven toilets, six galleys and a crew of up to twenty. Underfloor baggage and cargo holds can carry over 22 tons of freight as well as passenger luggage - this is as much cargo as an all-freight version of the Boeing 707. Although the jet has two and a half times the capacity of the current big jets it can operate from existing runways. The need for sophisticated ground equipment to handle baggage and catering supplies has meant that a whole new range of ground equipment has had to be designed for the 747. The Pratt and Whitney JT 9D engines each produce 43,500lb (19,700kg) thrust and use up almost a gallon (4,5 litres) of fuel each second but the 42,000 gallon (190,000 litre) fuel capacity gives a range exceeding 3,200 miles (5,100 kilometres). The Boeing 747 has an overall length of 231ft 4in (70.50m), a wing span of 195ft 8in (59.62m) and is 63ft 5in high (19.36m).
