Henry George Brown started as a timber merchant and haulage contractor in Leighton Buzzard in 1908 with horses and carts, progressing to steam engines and then diesel vehicles. For six generations the family have been pioneers in British Road Haulage.

Leading the fifth generation Pentus H.G. Brown was a very innovative man who embraced and tested new technology and was one of the first in the country to run Mack, Scania and Volvo vehicles. He saw the potential of International haulage early and offered road freight services throughout Europe, The Middle East and North Africa with as many as 25 journeys made to Libya in 1975. On Pentus' retirement the company passed to his son, John Henry Brown. John added what Pentus called the Victory V to his distinctive turquoise and red livery. Sadly John Henry Brown passed away at an early age and the family limited the road haulage side of the business.
