Iarnrod Eireann Irish Railways

A growing range of Irish Railway OO scale model locomotives and coaches from Murphy Models.
Please Note - Murphy Modles products are priced in Euros. Pre-release pricing is based on an estimate of the normal range of EUR-GBP exchange rates.
Murphy Models highly detailed models of the CIE class 141 locomotives, built by Electro-Motive specifically for the Irish Railways in 1962. These locomotives were fitted with a late version of EMDs famed 567 engine, the 8 cylinders delivering 960bhp, though all were later upgraded to 645 standards for parts commonality with the later class 181. The 141/181 class locomotives were withdrawn 2010/11, five examples being preserved, though 1 may be used solely as a spares source.
These models feature highly detailed bodyshells with excellent grille depth and fine grab irons. The side handrails are moulded in a flexible plastic to help prevent accidental breakages.
Internally a centrally mounted motor and heavy diecast chassis provides drive to all four axles and the ability to haul substantial trains.
Model finished as locomotive 147 in the early CIE black and tan livery.

The Irish Railways fleet of 72 Mk2 coaches were built by British Rail Engineering to designs based on the British Rail Mk2D air conditioned coach, hence the visual similarity between the BR and CIE coaches. Ordered in 1972 these comfortable air conditioned coaches remained the Irish railways primary express stock throughout the 1970s and early 80s, being phased out of survace 2007-08. Unlike British Rail service where train power was supplied from the locomotive IE had purpose-built power generator coaches containing two diesel generators providing electric power for the air conditioning.
These Mk2D coaches are ideal for service with Murphy Models 141/181 class locomotives.
