A limited edition model of Northern Ireland Railways locomotive 8113, one of the class 111 locomotives ordered for operation in Northern Ireland and identical to the CIE class 071 locomotives. This model is painted in the darker NIR blue livery with yellow end warning panels.
These highly detailed locomotives are a useful addition to the range of Irish railway models and match with the Cravens and Mk.2D coaches also produced by Murphy Models.
These were the first large locomotives purchased for the Irish railway system, CIE returning to Electro-Motive for these 2,250bhp locomotives in 1976. From the late 1970s until the 1990s these were the principal express passenger locomotives on CIE, with two further locomotives purchased by NIR (the Northern Ireland Railways) for cross-border services. Following the introduction of the 201 class and DMUs 071 class locomotives have been moved into freight service, with one of the NIR locomotives often found working in the south on hire to IE.
Limited edition of 252 models.
