Dragon Armor 1/72 German Heavy Tank E-100 (60138)
A detailed model of the proposed German E-100 heavy tank. Fully assembled with a rotaing
turret and posable co-axial guns. Detailling of this model is limited as no E-100 tanks
were completed. The model shows how the tank might have appeared during trials.
The E-100 project was commissioned in order to standardize parts. It was to be built in classes of varying sizes to replace existing vehicles. Different types were designated a number indicating their weight in tons: E 10, E 25, E 50 (Panther replacement), E 75 (Tiger replacement) and E 100.
Of these only the E-100 project was actually started, but construction of the prototype proceeded slowly at Henschel's test plant after Hitler's order to cease work on super-heavy tanks, and at the end of the war only the bare hull and suspension were completed. The E-100 would have been a very powerful 100-ton combat tank. Intended to carry the German 88mm gun in a modified 'Maus' turrent one prototype chassis built by Henschel at Paderborn in early 1945 and scapped post-war in England. Given the problems the German army encountered with mobility of their heavy Tiger and King Tiger tanks we can only wonder how successful this 100-tonne monster would have been in the muddy battlefields of WWII.
