Sutton Publishing Spitfire Flying Legend (1841350125)
As much a national hero as Wellington, Nelson or Montgomery, the Supermarine Spitfire has become the most recognisable icon of World War 2 for several generations of Britons. From the throaty growl of its Rolls-Royce Merlin or Griffon, to its beautifully tapered elliptical wings, the Spitfire is a true aeronautical thoroughbred. Regarded by many as the saviour of the Sceptred Isle 'in its darkest hour', the Spitfire is without a doubt the most famous combat aircraft the world has ever seen.

Airfix The Boys Book of Airfix by Arthur Ward (AH2898A)
In 2009, Airfix, the most famous plastic model construction kit company in the world, celebrates its 70th birthday. Founded in 1939 by Hungarian Nicholas Kove, Airfix holds a unique appeal for boys (and girls) of all ages and has been part of the fabric of childhood for generations. Packed with photos of the kits from the 1950s to the present, "The Boys' Book of Airfix" is a nostalgic look at one of the greatest brands ever. In addition to the history behind the models, from the first Airfix kit - a model tractor - right up to today's exciting "Doctor Who" releases, it tells the story of the dramatic twists and turns of the Airfix saga. In the autumn of 2006 it looked as if the great name might disappear for ever when its owners languished in receivership, only for the company to be heroically rescued by Hornby. If you were ever responsible for sending an Airfix Messerschmidt to a fiery doom from your bedroom window, this book is for you!more..

Sutton Publishing The RFC/RNAS Handbook 1914-18 (0750921692)
In the late 19th century, aviation was dismissed by some military personnel as a waste of time. But, by 1912 the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) had been formed, combining the Air Battalion of the royal Engineers and the Naval Air Organization. Two years later, just one month before the outbreak of World War I, the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) was created as an idependent unit. This work explores the contributions made by the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service during World War I in this highly illustrated text. As well as the aircraft, a numerous array of other subjects is covered, including organization, pay, rank, uniforms, motor vehicles, the women's branches, attitudes, and even songs popular in the mess.

Sutton Publishing Missing - Believed Killed (0750930039)
Why did American aviatrix Amelia Earhart suddenly disappear over the Central Pacific on the final leg of her round the world flight in 1937? What caused the death of Britain’s aviation heroine Amy Johnson in 1941? What really lay behind the fatal flying boat crash that claimed the life of the Duke of Kent in 1942? Famous bandleader Glenn Miller disappeared on a flight to Paris in 1944. Investigators believe they may have pinpointed the location of the wreckage of his aircraft in the English Channel, but what makes them so sure? Leading aviation author Roy Conyers Nesbit has tracked down new witnesses to these events and drawn upon hitherto undisclosed public records to provide startling new evidence on some of the most enduring mysteries of the air. He also examines in detail the RAF Sub-Aqua Association’s exciting but dangerous work investigating aircraft wrecks underwater. Fully illustrated with archive photographs and painstakingly researched, this unique book is ideal for aviation buffs, conspiracy theorists and those interested in mysteries of all kinds.

Sutton Publishing The Red Arrows (0750930969)
The Red Arrows are the RAF's premier aerobatics team and the most famous in the world today. Formed in 1965, the Reds have attracted a worldwide following as ambassadors for Great Britain on their overseas display tours to some fifty countries. Aerobatics has a long and distinguished history in the RAF, forming an essential part of training and developing expertise and teamwork skills. The classic Diamond Nine formation is recognized internationally as the team's trademark. Following a brief history of the Red Arrows, the author surveys a day in the life of a Red Arrows pilot. Pilots stay with the team for three seasons, ensuring that maximum expertise remains with the team from year to year. Flying display planning - up to one hundred displays are flown yearly - and the vital roles of the ground and support crews are examined. Lavishly illustrated with full-color photography and endorsed by the Red Arrows, this is a worthy tribute to the world's best-known aerobatics team.

Sutton Publishing Eyes of the RAF (0750932562)
RAF air photography has come a long way from faltering beginnings over the trenches of the Western Front during World War I, when unwieldy plate cameras were fixed on the cockpit sides of Royal Aircraft Factory BE2 biplanes. By the close of World War II, dedicated photo-reconnaissance Spitfires could photograph the enemy by day, while Mosquitoes could operate by day or night from heights up to 36,000 feet. With the quantum leap in recent decades of electronics and optical imagery, Panavia Tornado GRs can use video-tape with a data link to relay pictures to image analysts on the ground, thus doing away with "wet" film techniques. This book was written at the request of the Association of Royal Air Force Photography Officers. Using official and personal records, the author traces the development of air photography from the earliest days to the present era. His detailed narrative is supported by more than 400 photographs with exhaustively researched captions, making it a comprehensive history on the RAF's photo-reconnaissance capability.

Sutton Publishing In Pursuit of Life Erik Hazelhoff (0750932813)
This autobiography offers a portrait of one man's truly extraordinary life. It radiates outwards from World War II in which Dutchman Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema served as a secret agent with the Special Operations Executive, a bomber pilot with the RAF's elite Pathfinder Force, and after receiving the Dutch equivalent of the Victoria Cross, as aide and confidante to Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. His adventures after the war were no less turbulent and spanned the globe - from sales clerk and actor in Hollywood to blockade runner off New Guinea; vice-president of NBC to bum in New York's Central Park; Director of Radio Free Europe for the CIA to oil prospector in Israel - and above all, a writer

Sutton Publishing Iron Hand (1852606053)
An illustrated study of aerial electronic combat in the age of the Surface-to-Air Missile. It describes the evolution of American anti-radar weapons, related jamming tactics and stealth technology as leading countermeasures to the SAM and other sophisticated ground-base anti-aircraft defences. The focus is very much on new weapons and tactics as they emerged in combat, beginning with the Vietnam War and later the Persian Gulf and more recent Balkans conflicts. Combining an analytical overview of the weapons systems mixed with first-hand anecdotal reminiscences from former air and ground crews, this complex story is explained in an accessible manner, with the "hows and whys" of aerial electronic combat given a full airing.

Crowood Press Blackburn Buccaneer Book (1861268718)
Conceived in the 1950s as a replacement for the Supermarine Scimitar, the Blackburn Buccaneer went into service with the Royal Navy as its main carrier-borne nuclear strike aircraft. But with a diminishing role to play in world affairs, and a reduction in the number of aircraft carriers, the Navy disposed of its Buccaneers to the RAF, where they went on to become one of the Force's most successful and best-loved aircraft

Sutton Publishing Tail Gunner (0750931728)
First published in 1943, this is the gripping story of one man's involvement in the RAF Bomber Command's fledgling offensive between August 1940 and December 1941. Dick Rivaz was tail gunner to Leonard Cheshire, one of the most famous RAF pilots of the Second World War, flying in Whitleys with No. 102 Squadron and latterly in Halifaxes with No. 35 Squadron. Tail Gunner is unique among wartime memoirs, as it was written within months of the events Rivaz describes, and with all the immediacy of one who was in the very thick of the action. He gives graphic descriptions of his experiences on night bombing attacks against heavily defended enemy targets likes Duisberg, Dusseldorf and Essen, and relates a dramatic shoot-out with German fighters over La Rochelle in broad daylight during July 1941. He survived these events to write this book, but was sadly killed in October 1943, aged just thirty-seven.
