Hornby OO R9671 GWR Water Column & Crane
Detailed ready painted models of the GWR standard pattern conical-roof water tower and a yard water crane.
These small capacity circular water towers were installed at branchline terminii and on branchline platforms at junction stations, usually placed so the locomotive could stop beneath the water tower as the train was drawn into the platform. Water cranes were often found at the platform ends of larger stations, serving the needs of stopping trains from a much larger capacity water tank nearby. Water cranes were also often erected in locomotive depots and yards, allowing shunting engines to be refilled with water.
