Wills Kits OO Ground Level Signal Box SS29

A useful kit building a model of a small ground level signal box, crossing gate box or ground frame shelter, based on an example at Staverton Bridge, Dart Valley Railway.
48 x 36mm

While a signal box, a crossing box and a ground frame all contained a lever frame and often controlled signals the difference lay in the use of the location in the block signalling system.
A Signal Box contained block section instruments and controlled the passage of trains over a sections of track to the next signal box on either side. At a small wayside station the signal box didn't have to be large!
A 'box with levers controlling points and signals but not having the instruments controlling the block section was named a Ground Frame, even if a full-size signal box was built. A crossing box was a variation on the ground frame, built specifically to lock the gates of a level crossing and set signals to warn train drivers if the gates were still closed.

Wills Kits OO Crossing Keepers Cottage SS39

A plastic kit model of a level crossing keepers' cottage, a small house built by the railway company alongside a manually worked level crossing, often in remote locations. The building could also be used as a farm or estate workers cottage. The kit can easily be modified to a half or low relief format to fit against a backscene if space is restricted.
98 x 98mm

Many crossing keepers were women, often the wives of platelayers, or men disabled by an accident on the railway. While the keeper could be 'on duty' 24-hours a day hand-worked crossings were usually only found where branch lines, where night trains were rare, met quiet, rural roads, where road traffic was infrequent. Many of these cottages remain however, often purchased from BR by the last keeper after the automation of the crossing, so this kit is just as useful for the modern railway as for the steam era.

Wills structure kits are suitable for use on all UK model layouts representing the 1930s up to the 1960s and beyond, many of these types of buildings are still in existence today. The design are copied from real life, giving you the option to model a real situation or, if you prefer, use them in a fictional setting. Wills Kits OO Corrugated Iron Chapel SS70

A plastic kit recreating a simple corrugated iron chapel building. A few of these still survive!
123 x 72mm

The expansion of suburbs and increasing variety of religious groups under the 'Christian' banner led to a need for more churches in places not provided with, or unable to afford the construction of a permanent brick or stone church. These chapel buildings could be obtained in a pre-fabricated form and errected by the parishioners themselves, providing a basic but functional place of worship.

Wills structure kits are suitable for use on all UK model layouts representing the 1930s up to the 1960s and beyond, many of these types of buildings are still in existence today. The design are copied from real life, giving you the option to model a real situation or, if you prefer, use them in a fictional setting. Wills Kits OO Lever/Ground Frame Kit SS91

Wills Kits SS91 Lever/Ground Frame Kit.

This kit contains enough parts to create two small (2 lever) and two large (4 lever) ground frames, complete with chequer plate floor and instrument frame. Once assembled and painted these models will add further character and realism to the trackside scene. The point drive rods from the lever/ground frame can be created using the SS89 and SS90 point rodding kits.

Ground frames are widely used in locations where locking of points and signals is necessary but the location is not a 'block post' for the purposes of signalling trains.
These locations include manually worked level crossings, industrial sidings and goods-only lines connecting to main running lines and goods yards, where the frame allows a shunter to operate several points safely from one location.

To economise on staff costs many lineside stations and some branchline terminii had signal boxes replaced by ground frames from the 1920s onwards, the frame locking the line for passenger running and being unlocked and worked by the train crew to gain access to goods sidings. The ground frame set can be used to fit out the small, ground level signal box kit SS29 and with level crossing kit SS56.

Proses Snap & Glue Magnetic Corner Clamps PR-SS-02

A well designed and innovative tool for building square cornered structures in plastic, from basic material or kits.

The snap & glue clamps use powerful magnets mounted into an inside and outside right-angles pair, holding the pieces meeting at the corner together and at right angles without needing additional support or a set-square. The tools have a cut-out at the actual corner, allowing adhesive to be applied by brush or applicator tube passing through the clamped points, with plenty of clearance to avoid liquid adhesive touching the clamps themselves.

Pack contains two pairs of inside and outside clamp units.
