The Ford Granada started production in 1972 in Ford’s Cologne factory but in the early days the lower models in the range went under the Ford Consul name due to a law suit in Britain by the Granada Group who tried to block Ford registering the name Granada on their new large executive car. However, the large British conglomerate failed, so Ford were able to register the name Granada from 1975 onwards. As a high range car, the Granada lent itself very well to use by the police, as a fleet car and as a taxi. Body styles varied from a 2/4 door saloon, a 5-door estate and a 2-door coupe?. The Mark I was also produced in Dagenham in Essex between 1972 and 1976 when manufacture reverted to Cologne. It ceased production completely in 1977 when superseded by a second generation Granada.
Our Mk I Granada is registered NHK 292M from 1973. It comes in an authentic bright green with black roof and a beige interior on a black chassis. Wheels are finished in black and silver. The radiator grille is also black with silver trim and other details include silver window surrounds, door handles, rear panel trim and bumpers. A final touch of realism sees the Ford lettering finely reproduced in silver out of black above the rear number plate.
