Roger Smith has advised that the company which was doing the etching for these signs has gone out of business and he has not been able to find an alternative etching company to undertake the work at a similar cost. We regret therefore the speed restriction signs are likely to be out of production for some time.
A brass etch of 10 cut-out pattern speed restriction signs to the BR standard pattern introduced in 1948. Speed limits range from 5 to 70mph and a few direction indication arrows are provided to indicate where the restriction applies to points for a diverging route or cross-over.
Although now replaced on the national network by disc indicator boards these cut-out signs are still used by heritage railways.
