Eduard 1195 Bundesfighter German Luftwaffe F-104 Starfighter
Developed by Lockheed in the early 1950s the F-104 Starfighter was selected as the new supersonic air defence fighter for the post-WW2 Luftwaffe in a deal which included technology transfer to permit the contruction and maintenance of the aicraft by the German aero industry. The original F-104 actually proved less than ideal for European theatre operations, the wings not having been designed for the much higher G loadings imposed by aggresive manouvering at very low level, often necessary to avoid accidentally crossing the border when detering East German and Soviet aircraft from probing too closely.
Airframe strengthing, different ejector seats (2 types included in the kit) and other changes made to the German Starfighters slowly increased the detail differences from the original USAF aircraft.
This kit from Eduard specifically recreates the Luftwaffe F-104G with decals to model several different aircraft serving during the 1980s with the German Luftwaffe (air force) and Marineflieger (navy), plus a Fokker-built F-104G which was flown as a training aircraft by the USAF.
