Bachmann 44-575 4 Lever Open Ground Frame
Ground frames are used to interlock points with the signalling system at remote locations and in yards where local control is required. Similar frames can also be found at country level crossings worked by a crossing keeper.
This set comprises a 4-lever frame, working platform, shelf to display the track layout controlled and a lineside cabinet. The cabinet will usually contain a phone for the shunter to talk to the signalman and the electrical locking equipment used to release the locking key for the frame.
Visitors to heritage railways will often see ground frames being used by enginemen to set the points while running around their trains and watch the fireman lock the frame and remove the token from it before rejoining the locomotive.
