Mk3 Coaches continue to be a mainstay on British railways in the 21st century despite their increasing age. With the introduction of the new Class 800 and 802 IEP units on the Great Western Mainline, GWR cascaded remaining IC125 sets to rural routes, shortening them to 4 passenger coach 'Castle' sets. These Mk3s are also updated to comply with new regulations mandating considerations such as improved toilet facilities, disabled access and automatic doors.

The 'Caledonian Sleeper' franchise was initially handed out as part of the ScotRail franchise which was won by National Express who took over the services operation in 1997. National Express continued to use BR's Mk3 sleeper coaches, hiring locomotives from Virgin Trains until March 1998, and EWS from then on. Mk2 seated carriages were added to the service in 2000 featuring First Class-style reclining seats, while the Mk3 sleeping cars were refurbished.

In 2004 the ScotRail Franchise including the 'Caledonian Sleeper' was transferred to FirstGroup with the Caledonian sleeper rolling stock being repainted in FirstGroup's corporate blue, pink and white livery. In 2014 the 'Caledonian Sleeper' became part of a separate franchise awarded to Serco who invested £100 million in new Mark 5 carriages which were introduced in April 2019, replacing the aging Mk3 stock.

The Mk.3 TGS coach is formed with the guards' van next to the locomotive at the standard class end of HST coach sets. The car contains seating for standard class passengers for most of it's length, with window bay used to create an office for the guard with limited accommodation for luggage and bicycles.

Following the FirstGroup's decision to buyout their partner's shares in Great Western Holdings, a decision was made to rebrand the Great Western Trains HST units to First Great Western (FGW). Visually this change involved the fitting of a new vinyl gold strip and colour fading as well as fitting new FGW logos. This livery was relatively short lived, with FGW introducing a variety of new liveries over the next few years which were more in keeping with the First Group's other corporate liveries.

This 6 Wheeled Coach is a representation of the many which served on the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Small coaches such as this 6 Wheeled Coach proved especially good at branch line work, where their small size was more acceptable to lower passenger numbers, and enabled the traversing of tight radius curves and hauled by smaller engines.

This LSWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and oil lamp lighting.

The Mk2 Coach was introduced to the British Railway in 1964, designed to be stronger and more resistant to corrosion than their predecessors yet also reducing maintenance costs. A revised painting method coincided with a switch from BR maroon and Southern Region dark green to a blue and grey livery.

1876 Mk2 Coaches were produced by BREL at Derby Litchurch Lane Works between 1963 and 1975, with many remaining in service performing departmental work and charter services. Mk2 Coaches were also widely exported and remain in mainline service in New Zealand as of 2020. Coaches and multiple units based upon the Mk2 design have also operated in Ireland, Taiwan and Kenya.

Coaches such as these were vital to the trains of the GWR, more compact than their 4 wheeled cousins and almost tender size. Brake Baggage Coaches combined the installation of a brake with the ability to move luggage as well, giving a variety of uses and versatility to the GWR trains.

On the 25th of August 2020 Avanti West Coast unveiled a new livery for one of its train-sets. Billed as the biggest Pride flag the UK has seen on the side of a train, the new livery wraps the full length of the 11 carriages in the Progressive Pride flag colours. The first service of this newly liveried train was staffed by a LGBTQ+ crew with the train filled with literature, stories and colourful posters featuring Pride related information as well as fun facts during the onboard announcements. This coach can be used to expand set R30081 to a 9-car set.

One of the most novel features of the 'Coronation' was the inclusion of a specially built streamlined observation car, often affectionately named the 'beaver tail' observation car. Two were built, with one being used for the up service and the other for the down service. Passengers couldn't reserve a seat in the observation car, instead a fee was charged for the use of the carriage by the hour. In reality the streamlined shape of the roof severely limited the views out the back of the carriage. In 1959, long after the 'Coronation' service had ceased, British Railways rebuilt the observation cars with a new un-streamlined end which featured much larger windows and a new seating arrangement to significantly improve the view with the cars being used on the famously picturesque west highlands line.

The Mk.3 TSO coaches provide the standard class passenger accommodation on HST trains. Usually 4 TSO coaches make up a full 8-car train formation, if you have the space for a full-length train!

After their brief stint in the BR Blue and Grey colour scheme the Mark 3 coaches saw a livery change in line with a corporate rebrand of high speed services. The new InterCity livery saw the coaches painted in a darker grey colour with a beige stripe along the top and bottom of the coaches with a red stripe under the windows.

This livery was designed to emulate or copy the advanced yet ultimately fruitless APT project. This livery would largely remain unchanged even after a further rebrand to Intercity Swallow, before the coaches would transfer into private ownership at the end of BR.

These Mk3 coaches include the provision for lighting provided by the R7305 Maglight lighting unit, as well as fully detailed interiors and metal wheels throughout. For the first time, these coaches also include our new Buckeye style magnetic couplings.

A British Rail 6 Wheel Coach converted and used as a power source, a Generator Coach is an innovative and curious device serving in a capacity far different from the typical expectation of a coach simply to carry. While British Rail's standardised coaches with their simple and direct marks have dominated the InterCity lines for decades, many different services are provided including the typical purposes of coaches and railway transport.

In lines where a pantograph was not freely available to power electric trains, a power outage appears unexpectedly or even a hotel or other building required electricity; the Generator Coach was an emergency tool at hand.

Royal trains have always been a consideration of railway operators, and this included in the early days of the railways. One of the first royal coaches dates back to 1842, and still exists to this day. In 1840, the widow of King William IV became the first member of the British Royal Family to travel by train, and with the decision that this may become a regular occurrence, a special coach was built for her travel two years later.

Queen Adelaide, the aunt of Queen Victoria, would receive this coach in the same year that Queen Victoria would take her first journey by rail, becoming the first British monarch to do so. Queen Adelaide's Saloon, coach number 2, was constructed at Euston works who built the underframe and then combined it with a body built by a coach builder, also based in London. The coach built nature of this saloon led to it resembling a horse drawn carriage of the time. The coach was built by the London and Birmingham Railway.

The Mk3 coach is perhaps most iconic in its original production livery of the BR Grey and Blue. It is in this livery that the coach, as well as the matching Class 43 units would be introduced, before high speed rail services in the UK would be rebranded into the Intercity Executive livery.

Following the privatisation of the Railway network, Mk3 coaches would find themselves in many colourful liveries, some harking back to the original blue and grey livery of times gone by.

These Mk3 coaches include the provision for lighting provided by the R7305 Maglight lighting unit, as well as fully detailed interiors and metal wheels throughout. For the first time, these coaches also include our new Buckeye style magnetic couplings.

This four-wheeled coach is a representation of the many coaches which served on the Isle of Wight Central Railway in the 19th and 20th centuries. Four-wheeled coaches proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This first-class coach is modelled with step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and gas lighting. This model is compatible with our new Maglight system which allows coach lights to be turned on and off using a magnetic wand, removing the need for track pick-ups which increase rolling resistance. This elegant coach features a teak-wood panelling livery, reminiscent of luxury travel, and four doors on each side.

To suit a member of the Royal Family, the coach was finished in an elaborate red livery with gold-plated handles and a hand-painted coat of arms insignia on the exterior panels. The bodywork was completed by Hooper, who was later known for its connections with luxury car manufacturers, Rolls-Royce and Daimler. ‘Queen Adelaide’s Saloon’ is the oldest surviving royal carriage and is housed at the National Railway Museum in York.

A regal coach suited for a Queen, this L&BR coach is a perfect replication of the preserved example. The accessory bag contains two chain couplings.
