Z-38 belonged to the German Navy Narvik Class. This class of destroyer was 122 m long and had 150 mm guns. One of her first operations took place in December 1943, when Z-38 escorted the Scharnhorst. After 1945 the Z-38 operated in the Baltic as escort for the withdrawing German forces. After the capitulation Z-38 fell into British hands and was reactivated by the Royal Navy as HMS Nonsuch.
