Saratoga Model Shipyard SMY64 Culgoa AF-3, refrigerated supply ship, 1898-1921 1/1250
A 1/1250 scale metal model painted in white & buff as a US refrigerated stores ship for the Great White Fleet on its round the world voyage. Culgoa was bought by the US during the Spanish American war to supply US fleets in the Pacific & Caribean. She was not designated USS or USNS so that she could collect supplies from neutral ports without fear of internment. Later she would carry both official designations and she served with the Great White Fleet in tropical livery. She was in overall grey by 1912 and during WW1 she crossed the Atlantic to service US ships in Europe for a total of 7 crossings. Laid up in 1920, she was sold to trade but was scrapped in 1922.
