| > Corgi Aviation Archive > World War II, Fighters | Corgi 1/72 USAF P-47D Thunderbolt No Guts No Glory Lt Ben Mayo 78th Duxford 1944 WW2 (AA33806) The 78th Fighter Group operated with different variants of the P-47 until late 1944 when it phased into the P-51 'Mustang'. The 78th remained in England until October, 1945. This aircraft has the serial 226671 and codes MX-X, depicting the aircraft flown by Lt. Col. Ben Mayo, CO of the 82nd Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group. Sprayed silver overall with D-Day invasion markings added and the black-and-white chequered cowling of the 78th Fighter Group, this aircraft is now fully restored and displayed at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, where it still continues to fly.
