Corgi 1/32 De Havilland Mosquito FBVI NS850 The Black Rufe 418 City of Edmonton Sqn RCAF June 1944 AA34605
A superb large 1/32nd scale die-cast metal model AA34605 from Corgi of the famous DeHaviland Mosquito, The Black Rufe, the wooden wonder of World War 2
The De-Haviland Mosquito combined RR Merlin power plants with a lightweight wood composite airframe to create a fast, powerful and devastatingly accurate strike aircraft. Designed as a fast medium bomber a pair of Merlins provided fighter-class speed, the Mosquitos' primary defensive weapon. Mosquitos could run faster for longer than many interceptor fighters!
The Mosquitos' outstanding performance made it much more than a bomber, serving with distinction as fighter-bomber, target marker, night fighter, intruder, even anti-ship/submarine strikes!
This highly detailed large scale model of the Mosquito FB.VI, the main multi-role fighter-bomber variant, is finished as NS850 'The Black Rufe' of 418 'City of Edmonton' squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1944. In this large scale a very high level of detailing is made possible, along with removable covers, movable landing gear and opening bomb-bay doors.
418 was the highest scoring Canadian unit, flying hazardous long-range intruder and ranger sorties over occupied Europe, destroying Luftwaffe aircraft on and around their own bases by day and night, often intercepting transport and training aircraft deep over enemy controlled territory.
Despite the Mosquitos not carrying radar 418 squadron achieved a numerous victories by night, loitering around Luftwaffe airfields, destroying enemy aircraft as they attempted to land, showing a high level of skill and determination amongst the Canadian crews as they flew through the resulting hail of AA FIRE.
