As the world watched Britain launched audacious strikes code-named 'Black Buck' against occupying Argentinean forces in the Falkland Islands. On the night of 30th April/1st May 'Operation Black Buck 1' saw Vulcan XM607 bomb the runway at Port Stanley, at that time the longest range bombing mission ever attempted.
This model replicates RAF Avro Vulcan B2 aircraft XM597 as flown for mission 'Black Buck 6' on June 3rd 1982, intended to strike at Argentinean radar controlling anti-aircraft missiles and artillery installations on the Falkland Islands using AGM-45 'Shrike' missiles. The return leg of this mission had to be aborted due to the breaking of the Vulcan's nose refuelling probe, leaving the aircraft critically short of fuel and forcing diversion to Rio de Janeiro.
