Newly held in autumn, as it was originally, the Tour de Corse 2000 (Tour of Corsica) was a veritable triumph for the Peugeot Sport Team, with the three 206 WRC's taking part, winning 13 of the 17 hotly contested time sections.
One year after the 206 WRC's first official races on the same insular courses they - Panizzi (1st), Delecour (2nd) and Gronholm (5th) - gave nothing away to their opponents, the Panizzi brothers, Gilles and Herve, winning their first Rally World Championship. Thanks to this historic double, Peugeot took the lead in the constructor's championship and Marcus Gronholm consolidated his lead in the "Drivers" championship. The Peugeot 206 WRC is equipped with a turbo-compressed four-cylinder engine and integral transmission with electronic steering, with controls on the steering wheel.
