Colors: 4 9 90 99 302 730 731 Towards the end of the seventies, Audi began testing a four-wheel drive car with a turbocharged 5 cylinder engine, which was presented at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show. This sporty coupé offered a top speed of 222 kph and was enthusiastically received by the public. In 1981 the Quattro took part in its first rallies and surprised the competition with its technology: the tractive power of the four-wheel drive was equally convincing on very slippery sections where wheel grip often left something to be desired. In the following year it won the World Championship title for the marque. In the Quattro, Michele Mouton was the first woman to win a World Rally Championship race. In the Monte Carlo Rally, it was driven by the Finn Hannu Mikkola with a clear lead after 6 special tests. In the RAC races the Mikkola-Hertz team won with clear superiority over the competition. | |
