more | Corgi 1/76 RTW Bus Model A1 Services (OM41705) Ayrshire Bus Owners (A1 Service) Ltd., the largest of several co-operative bus companies on the Ayrshire coast, thrived for more than sixty years after being set up in 1931 but sold out to the Stagecoach group in 1995. Its name and blue and off-white livery have, however, been retained by Stagecoach for the main Ardrossan-Kilmarnock service which it operated.
A1 Service had over twenty bus owners in it, each being responsible for buying their own buses so the fleet was always varied. Former London Transport buses were popular buys in the 1950s and 1960s with dozens of RT and RTL buses in the fleet. KLB 914 was one of only four of Londons Leyland-bodied 8-wide RTW class of Leyland Titans to join the A1 fleet, being acquired by Hunter, Kilmarnock in April 1965. | |
