Corgi 1/76 Trolleybus Wolverhampton No.8b Dudley Bridge (OM40102B)
The Wolverhampton Corporation Transport Department purchased parts of two tramway companies
within the borough, recommencing services with trollleybuses in 1923, using trackless style
vehicles as tram replacements. Trolleybuses of a more modern outline, reputedly the first
in Britain, arrived in 1926. From 1931 there was a joint service with Walsall trolleybuses.
The Guy Motors factory was situated in the town, so Guy buses and Sunbeam trolleybuses were
favoured in the towns purchases until 1969 when production ceased. The decision to abandon
the trolleybus fleet was made in 1961 and the last one ran in 1967. The Wolverhampton
Corporation Transport Department was absorbed by the new West Midlands Passenger Transport
Executive in 1969.
