Carrs Low Temperature Solder 100 (C1044)

An alternative to normal 70 Degree Solder. This is a Tin/Lead/Bismuth mix which has a melting temperature of 100 Deg C. over which it has three advantages. It can be used to solder Whitemetal directly to Brass without tinning the latter. It 'creeps' into joints better than 70 Degree. 70 Degree Solder comes in a half round 'blowpipe' form and can be a bit chunky and hence difficult to get into small areas, (which is why most folk carry the solder to the work on the end of the soldering iron bit. This material comes as a thin rod, about the diameter of a needle file handle.

Obviously you have to set your iron tip temperature slightly higher in order to use this material - 185-200 Deg. C is about right. Kit manufacturers tend to use different Whitemetal alloys, so you must test first. Our own experience is that setting your tip temperature at 200 Deg. C is OK for DJH kits, but would need to be used with extreme caution on ABS kits and others manufacturers' Whitemetal parts that are cast for them by Adrian. So we say again, please test before using.
