The government decided that all public transportin Ireland should come under one management and the Ulster Transport Authority or UTA was formed in 1948, as well as a fleet of over 1000 buses and coaches, the UTA also operated in excess of 1000 commercial vehicles.In 1964 the government decided to break up the UTA and form a new company ,Northern Ireland Carriers Ltd in conjunction with the British Transport Holding Co. The new company took over the Heavy Haulage Dept. and the Furniture business in February 1965 just befor the UTA closed its Freight Dept. in June
