Century Wings 1/72 USN F14A Tomcat VF-41 Black Aces AJ102 1981 (782976)

A superbly detailed model of the US Navy Grumman F-14A Tomcat fleet defence fighter aircraft finished in the markings of VF-41, the Black Aces from 1981. The model is suppied with landing gear and a range of appropriate weapons.

In the early 1980s VF-41 were normally embarked on the USS Nimitz when at sea. During 1981 while deployed in the Mediterranean sea Tomcat aircraft of VF-41 were involved in the shooting down of two Libyan Sukhoi Su-22 Fitter aircraft which approached the US carrier group and, unlike most Libyan intruders didn't turn away when intercepted and warned off. One of these was 'Fast Eagle 102', flown by Commander Henry 'Hank' Kleeman and Lieutenant David 'DJ' Venlet.

 The squadron also won the battle efficiency award for the Atlantic fleet flighter squadrons in that year.
